As you know, A World at School is building a movement – a movement to get 57 million children into school and learning by the end of 2015 – as the world promised in Millennium Development Goal 2 (MDG 2).
This is your movement and now it is even stronger.
This month, A World at School announced our Global Youth Ambassadors by bringing them together with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, UN Special Envoy Gordon Brown and other high-level NGO, business and faith leaders at our 2015 Countdown Summit in Washington DC.
These young education campaigners asked: "can we count on you to ensure that every child has a quality basic education?"
The UN Secretary-General replied: "you can count on me."
This message was repeated by Ricken Patel, founder of Avaaz; Alice Albright, CEO of the Global Partnership for Education; Donald Kaberuka, President of the African Development Bank; and the CNN News Anchor, Isha Sesay.
Together, they join powerhouses including Shakira, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Jude Law, Lang Lang, Goldie Hawn and Mabel van Oranje to form a new Emergency Coalition for Global Education Action.
This is just the beginning.
We will dedicate June to youth actions around the world, as we get ready to launch our 500-Day Countdown Campaign in August.
We knew we could count on you. Thanks to your leadership, we can now count on many more leaders to stand up for the right to education!
